The story behind the artwork.

Amidst the vast expanse of modernity, a lamentable incident unfurled—an odyssey through the intricate realms of bureaucracy and discrimination. In the confines of a telephone conversation, an endeavor to secure insurance, intended to shield against life’s uncertainties, transpired into a protracted affair, ensnared in the clutches of dismay and negativity.

Navigating the labyrinthine world of insurance, I encountered the fervent solicitations of brokers advocating the merits of a company, seemingly promising competitive rates. Yet, the promising prospects soon unravelled as the underwriters of Modus Insurance, arbiters of my fate, harbored a discerning eye that saw beyond the borders of legality and permanence. Despite my status as a pre-settled individual, with rights akin to a British citizen barring the right to vote, the underwriters deemed my nationality a barrier. Their unfounded denial of insurance, a blatant display of bias, struck a discordant chord, leaving a bitter taste in the symphony of my experience.

Fueled by indignation, my emotions found solace in artistry—a channel for the tumultuous waves of frustration. In the midst of the vexing phone call, I seized an idle letter envelope and, with expressive strokes, imbued my sentiments upon its surface, articulating my grievances through a poignant act of defiance. In the aftermath of this disheartening encounter, I felt compelled to uphold justice, to challenge the echoes of discrimination that reverberated in the hollow corridors of my experience. Composing a formal complaint, I etched my narrative, condemning the injustice that marred the noble ideals of a democratic and inclusive society.

It is a disheartening reality that, in the year 2023, within the realm of Great Britain—a nation heralded for its values of fairness and equity—such prejudiced acts persist. To witness the refusal of home insurance to a legally residing individual, armed with all requisite documents, merely due to their non-British citizenship, is a stark testament to the virulent roots of nationalism.

This incident, steeped in the bitter brew of nationalism, represents a jarring juxtaposition against the backdrop of a progressive and inclusive society. It stands as a reminder that, despite our strides towards enlightenment, vestiges of discrimination persist, demanding our collective vigilance and advocacy for a world that shuns the fetters of prejudice and embraces the embrace of equal opportunities for all.
